Golden Oldies
vs Dee Why and Stllbillies 19.06.2011

Dee Why came to the rescue and organised an alternate game to the Eastwood Gala Day that was cancelled due to the wet. It does mean that next months Stillbillies Gala day will be a repeat with Old Manly Steamers and Wahroonga the only difference to yesterday.

It’s got to be mentioned that for the first time in the annuals of GO history we had more backs than forwards but with 12 of us and three Stillbillies we were able to take the field. After much discussion prior to kick off we agreed to let the massive Dee Why back line beat us up first. Some of the hits on our blokes reminded me of the good old days being smashed by sledge hammers. After allowing them to wear themselves out hitting us at Terminator Velocity of 9.8 m/s we came back and gave a good account of ourselves.

Ealsie agreed to play hooker, because no backs were willing to go into the front row. Gerry, as our resident rugby historian, "Has there ever been a taller hooker?"

We then helped out the Stillbillies in their defence of the Top of the Hill Honour against the coastal plains red people, before coming back for our second game against the Billies. I must admit I have a soft spot for Pierre as we started our GO career together three years ago but what were you thinking. I usually don't pay any attention to what’s happening on the sideline but I have looked up to see Pierre trotting off to the bags. I assumed he had taking himself off for some reason which was a problem given we were already short. To borrow a Kennyisum, "Fornicate me deceased", he arrives back on the field with a Stillbillies jumper on. Then to make matters worse he danced, jigged, dummied and sidestepped his way to an absolutely fantastic try. Next time for us please.

I can't let this match report go without mentioning Tweedledee & Tweedledum, Scotty Newman and Steve Barrett who both crossed the line and forgot to put the ball down. Scotty I haven't played much Rugby League but in Union if you have run 120 metres then you have gone too far. And Steve you had done the hard bit, cross the line and fall over, if you watch me I practice falling over throughout the game in the hope that one day I might be in that position.

In summary another great game of rugby had by all.

See you on July 10th at Terry Hills.
